Vladivostok Enjoys the 5th International Jazz Festival
From November 14-16, 2008 Vladivostok opened its arms to local jazz musicians and jazz fans by hosting the 5th Annual Jazz Festival. With the aim of promoting a high standard of musical culture, educating local audiences about the best global musical art, and using jazz to promote mutual understanding, the Festival allowed over 30 musicians from the Russian Far East, Moscow, South Korea and the United States to share their art with many Russian fans in the Russian Far East. PAS Vladivostok supported the Festival with the visit of the dynamic American jazz quartet “Alvin Atkinson and the Sound Merchants”, and with a rich program of cultural events, including three major concerts at the Philharmonic, a press conference, print interviews, master classes, jam sessions, and charity performances. Ambassador Beyrle greeted the participants and guests of the festival at the closing concert on November 16. The festival was widely covered by local TV and printing media, including the federal channel “Kultura” that broadcast a report about the festival.
