PAO Gersten and American Corner fans discuss
the legacy of African-American music treasures.

On February 26, Vladivostok Public Affairs Officer Bridget Gersten
turned up the music at the Vladivostok American Corner in honor
of Black History Month. PAO gave a multimedia presentation entitled
"Icons of Soul: The American Musical Genius", featuring
a cornucopia of R&B music and song. Guests listened and sang
along to the songs of Mahalia Jackson, Ella Fitzgerald, Ray Charles,
and Aretha Franklin, and participated in a discussion about the
links between language, culture, and values. Clips from the PA/OBS
DVD "Legends of Jazz" gave guests a glimpse into the roots
of the African-American musical experience
