On April 4, U.S. Consul General Armbruster visited Chuguevka to tour the timber plant and to open the Prokudin-Gorskiy photo exhibition at a local museum. Chuguevka is a village of some 13,000 residents in the center of Primorskiy Kray. The heavily forested areas boast bear, tiger, fox, sable, squirrel and other wild animals. To its credit, the Chuguevskaya Timber Processing Company, Ltd. has received the seal of approval from the World Wildlife Fund for its sustainable timber harvesting in this environmentally sensitive area. Consul General discussed the challenge of maintaining jobs in the region with the city Administration and learned that the village has a program in place to keep young professionals in the region.
