Vladivostok Consulate Celebrates Earth Day in Closed
City
 |
| Fokino's motto,
"a closed city with an open heart", underscored PAO Gersten's visit.
| Vladivostok Public Affairs Officer Bridget Gersten
traveled to the closed military city of Fokino to meet with students and teachers,
in celebration of Earth Day. After a meeting at the mayor's office, PAO Gersten
visited school #251 and enjoyed a guided school tour, an ecology club presentation,
a poster exhibit of U.S. alumni featuring FLEX students from Fokino, and a number
of talented performances by youth in the school auditorium. PAO Gersten then addressed
a crowd of over 200 students, teachers, parents, and community representatives,
engaging the audience in a lively presentation in celebration of Earth Day. This
was the first visit authorized for any official U.S. delegation in the last eight
years, opening doors for future collaboration with Fokino residents. Additional
