On February 27 29, Jess Bratton and Irina Lindberg from
USAID, experts from the Institute for Urban Economics, and the RFE
Center for Social Innovation launched the U.S.-RFE Municipal Partnership
Program funded by USAID and implemented by the Foundation for Russian-American
Economic Cooperation (FRAEC). This event included seminars, round
tables, and consultations in Kamchatka, a new territory for the
program, with the support of the Kamchatka Region Administration
and municipalities of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatskiy, Elizovo, and the
Paratunka settlement. Participants discussed the achievements of
the local governance partnerships ones that were previously
under the wing of the International City/County Management Association
of the USAID-funded City-Links program. The program links professionals
in Alaska and the Russian Far East (RFE), to generate local economic
growth strategies, improve local tax revenues, and upgrade municipal
services.
