The International Foundation "Children of Russia" and the NGO "Children in Trouble" have embarked on a two million dollar project to create the first rehabilitation center for children with cancer and blood diseases in Vladivostok. It is under construction now in affiliation with the oncology and hematology clinics at the City Hospital for Children in Vladivostok. One of the prime movers of the project is Russia's Honorary Consul in Honolulu, Hawaii Natasha Owen. On April 23, Owen and her colleague Ludmilla Minkina, head of a Vladivostok children's cancer clinic, met with CG Tom Armbruster to review progress. Many of the donors include American companies and philanthropists. The clinic will admit up to 120 new patients each year from the Russian Far East and Sakhalin.
