On January 14, Political Officer Dan Kronenfeld, CG Tom Armbruster,
and A/GSO Chris Wolf visited Russkiy Island, a proposed site for
the 2012 APEC Summit. Russkiy Island, a former Russian Pacific Fleet
military base was closed for foreigners for a long time. The island
has only 6,000 residents, but there are ambiscious plans for convention
centers, hotels, an aquarium and more. Much depends on whether a
bridge from Vladivostok to the island is funded and constructed
in time. The United States will host APEC in 2011.
