Budget Processes Public Oversight Discussed at USAID-Funded Roundtable with Primorsky Kray Mass Media
USAID-funded Roundtable with Mass Media of Primorsky krai "Budget Processes" was held by the Khabarovsk Representative Office of the Management Systems International in partnership with Resource Center I.S.A.R. and Khabarovsk public organization "Initiatives Plus" in Vladivostok on October 25, 2007. Dmitry Motovilov from PAO and Irina Lindberg, USAID Representative in the RFE, joined its organizers and more than 15 participants to review the ways to mould public opinion on budget processes, increase public and mass media interest in the issue of budgeting funds expenditures, to learn about Social Journalism Contest results and the new advocacy grant competition for mass media. After the presentation "Budget is essential for people" conducted by the Chairwoman of Artyom Entrepreneurs' Council, the Roundtable participants took part in vital discussions on their experience in budget processes public oversight and opportunities for the independent press and media to support local communities in budget hearings and evaluation.
