Fulbright Scholar in the RFE Marks 90th Anniversary of Teaching American Literature

The Department of Foreign Literatures and Oriental Studies Institute of the Far Eastern National University (FENU)  marked its 90th anniversary of teaching foreign and American literature with a conference called “West and East: Existential Issues in Foreign Literatures and Cultures”, held at the Institute of Foreign Languages from October 2-4.  Public Affairs Vladivostok invited American writer and Ulan Ude-based Fulbright Scholar from Alaska, Carolyn Kremers, and helped FENU bring professor Tatyana Venediktova, a well known Russian scholar on American Literature and President of the Russian Fulbright Alumni Association.  Non-fiction books on indigenous people of the Russian Far East and Alaska by Carolyn Kremers was a huge success,  further strengthening ties between the RFE and Alaska. PAO Bridget Gersten gave opening remarks on the first day, noting the link between languages, literatures, and mutual understanding.
