U.S. Consulate in Vladivostok Joins the Celebration of Indigenous Peoples’ Cultural Legacy
On October 23, one of Vladivostok major art galleries opened a personal exhibit of the Udege artist Ivan Dunkay. The exhibit features artwork of this unique culture, of one of the disappearing indigenous peoples of the Russian Far East. At the opening ceremony, PAO Gersten stressed the importance of such exhibits and expressed her gratitude to the artist for his contributions to conservation and sharing the Udege traditions with the world. In April 2008, Mr. Ivan Dunkay took part in a joint outreach program with IIP Speaker Radmilla Cody, a native Navajo, thus establishing friendly ties between the two peoples. The project contributed to mutual understanding of the people of the Russian Far East and the United States.
