Khabarovsk Hosts 4th Far Eastern International Economic Forum
On September 8-9, Khabarovsk hosted the 4th Far Eastern International Economic Forum supported by the Federal and regional governments of Russia and many businesses. U.S. Consulate's Political and Economic office and USAID representatives joined over 200 Forum participants to discuss the priorities and directions of innovative development of Eastern Russia, perspectives for regional infrastructure development under the current global financial crisis, and many other vital topics.There were a number of recommendations to the Russian Federation government. While developing a "socioeconomic development strategy for the Far East, Republic of Buryatia, Zabaikalsky Krai and Irkutskaya Oblast up to the year 2025," the government should: enhance the well-being of the population, develop strong research and educational institutions, promote sports and recreational facilities, encourage the development and use of cultural centers, and ensure opportunities for continuing education as well as individual development.
