American Jazz at Vlad American Corner
On September 22, U.S. Embassy Second Secretary Nickolas Katsakis presented an hour-long lecture on the music of jazz great Edward Kennedy “Duke” Ellington. The presentation covered Ellington’s life and the origins of his music. The audience listened to historic Ellington recordings, and Mr. Katsakis performed some Ellington pieces personally on the saxophone. During the question and answer period such topics as the harmonic structure of Ellington’s music and its impact on jazz today were discussed.
