Border Trip
Khasan, Russia is where Russia, China, and North Korea meet. CG Tom Armbruster visited Khasan on October 22 to learn more about border trade and activities. At the train station, the CG learned that North Korean workers enter Russia at Khasan twice a week. The train trip from Tumangan, North Korea to Khasan costs just under five dollars. From Khasan, the North Koreans fan out all over Russia, working in mines, forests, construction sites, and roads. The border region boasts endangered leopards and tigers, as well as many species of migrating birds. It is a fascinating corner of Russia, but it is not yet a center for cross border trade. The CG also delivered books and had a discussion with local school children.
