U.S. Ambassador and Consul General Welcome USAID LIDER Program Participants in Vladivostok

On November 18, U.S. Ambassador John Beyrle, his Assistant Alexis Smith, CG Tom Armbruster and USAID Representative Irina Lindberg visited the “Leadership For Change” training linking young people more directly with the communities in which they live and boosting their participation in local governance.  The event was supported by Mr. Valery Vyalov, Head of the Regional Bureau of Service for Employment and Labor Relations, and his staff. There was a lively discussion with the Ambassador on the role of leadership and volunteerism in community development, promoting youth health and economic well-being, the financial crisis, recently-held elections in the United States, the future of U.S.-Russia relations, the role of mass media in the modern world, and possibilities for creating U.S.-Russia partnerships.  The U.S. Ambassador also shared his personal success story on leadership, thus motivating workshop participants for further brainstorming on effective methods for engaging and serving youth.
