April 17-19, Embassy Moscow Economic Officer Philip Schwada represented Consulate Vladivostok at the USAID-funded First Regional Youth Media Festival in Luchegorsk, Primorskiy krai.  Approximately one hundred young people from across the region took part in the event, which included a viewing of documentaries, social advertisements, and short comedies written and produced by local teens as well as master classes on journalism and television broadcasting.  Philip also participated in a round table discussion on the local economy and public private partnerships with local government officials, civil society representatives, and business executives.  Thanks to its history of close cooperation between the government, private sector, and NGOs, Luchegorsk has developed an impressive array of opportunities for local youth to engage in the cultural and civic life of the region.  On his trip, Philip met with students from the Drama Theater, ecology club/film studio, craft center, and art school. He also visited the Luchegorsk music school and attended a student concert of Russian songs and pieces performed on traditional Russian instruments, during which he shared a traditional, American hymn on the piano.
