Brynner Family Legacy Intrigues Vladivostok Audience
Rock Brynner, son of legendary film star Yul Brynner, delivered three lectures organized by PAS Vladivostok during the course of the Pacific Meridian Film Festival. Rock Brynner, Professor of History and Political Science at Western Connecticut State University , talked to students, university faculty, and the general public at three venues, addressing the topics of “Global Problems: International Solutions”, “The Brynner and Yankovsky Families in North Korea: 1922-1946”, and “The Social and Political Impact of Rock and Roll”, September 16-17. Rock Brynner is the author of “Empire and Odyssey: The Brynners in Far East Russia and Beyond”, a book that chronicles the huge role that four generations of the Brynner family have played in the Russian Far East from the 19th century. Consul General Tom Armbruster opened the lecture at the Foreign Language Department of the Far Eastern State University, noting how the Brynner family created a link between the United States and Russia. At the Arsenyev Museum, PAO Bridget Gersten introduced Rock Brynner to an enthusiastic audience that included historians, researchers, and scholars familiar with the Brynner legacy. Rock was presented with a special gift, a new book in Russian that featured new research about the Brynner family.
