On January 21, 2011, USAID Development Assistance Specialist Irina Lindberg joined the leadership of the Moscow-based NGO “Center for Environmental Innovation” (CEI) for the first regional Advisory Board meeting with their Kamchatka regional partners. Hosted by Kamchatka League of Independent Experts in Petropavlovsk-Kamchatskiy, the project team discussed ways for cooperation within the USAID-funded program “Climate change adaptation and mitigation strategies in forestry” aimed at strengthening Russia’s climate change adaptation policy in the forest sector via improved knowledge of the future condition of Russian forests, with a specific focus on Siberia, Baikal and the Russian Far East. Kamchatka partners, mostly local experts in forestry, welcomed CEI’s idea of conducting a small-scale demonstration project and suggested attracting more youth and volunteers during program implementation, thus providing some results-oriented recommendations for regional and federal policy makers.
