Cultural, Educational and Exchange Programs
Exchange Programs
Educational
exchanges sponsored by the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs
of the U.S. Department of State play an important role in bringing
Americans and Russians into direct contact with each other and promoting
the free exchange of ideas. Through these programs, Russians from
high school age to university students to mid-career professionals
have the opportunity to visit the U.S. and meet with their American
counterparts. There are also programs to bring Americans to Russia
to lecture, teach and share experiences.
Many of these exchange programs are implemented by non-governmental
organizations, such as IREX, American Councils for International
Education and others. Please see links below for more information
about these organizations.
Alumni
The
U.S. Department of State offers a number of programs to support
networking and continued professional development of alumni of exchange
programs when they return to Russia. All alumni are invited to join
State Alumni, the online community by and for alumni. Launched in
April of 2001, the website is a way for alumni to network and stay
in touch with each other. The site offers alumni a calendar of events,
grant opportunities, and job postings. The site now includes a moderated
Question and Answer feature with monthly guest speakers. Registered
users can also search the database of State Alumni community members
to find colleagues, friends and alumni with similar interests. Alumni
are given the option to post their own news, events or links.
Please register at the State
Alumni website.
In addition, alumni of exchange programs in Russia have formed
their own association, known as Professionals for Cooperation. Please,
visit the Professionals for Cooperation
website.
Internet Access and Training Program
The
Internet Access and Training Program (IATP) promotes greater communication
among program alumni through the establishment of Internet and training
sites at universities, libraries, information resource centers and
NGOs. The sites provide sustainable access to, training in and effective
use of e-mail and the resources of the World Wide Web for alumni
of USG academic exchange and training programs and their colleagues.
The IATP program in Russia is implemented by Project Harmony.
The Project Harmony website
includes a list of IATP centers in the Russian Far East and throughout
Russia.
