Dates and Deadlines

Applicants

  • Only residents of the Vladivostok consular district may apply at the U.S. Consulate General in Vladivostok
  • Must be enrolled in a full-time course of post-secondary study and pursuing a degree from an accredited educational institution
  • Must demonstrate they will resume studies after participating in SWT or have strong family and economic ties to their home country.
  • May be citizens of other countries as long as they are studying in Russia, and have strong family and economic ties to Russia or their home country.
  • Need to demonstrate English proficiency at a level at which they can safely and successfully perform their job and live in the U.S.

Recruiter Limitations

New recruiting agencies are permitted to request participation in SWT 2008.

Application Procedures

Applications may be submitted to the Consulate on any workday between December 3, 2007 and April 13, 2008, between 10:30 and 12:00 AM. Applications must include:

  • Cover sheet. This cover page lists the applicants and includes: full name, date of birth, university name and location, year of study, number of times already participated in SWT
  • Visa processing fee of $131
  • Each student’s individual application. Documents required:
    • Visa application forms DS-156 (only one copy) with a color photo of the applicant against a light background. The recruiter’s seal is required on each DS-156.
    • DS-157 (for men ages 16-45).
    • DS-158
    • DS-2019 – signed original, plus one copy
    • Student spravka
    • Copy of the studencheskiy bilet
    • Copy of job letter
    • A valid passport
    • SEVIS receipt

Interviews

Every applicant must come to the Consulate for a personal interview and fingerprinting. Appointments will be granted on a "first come, first served" basis. Recruiters must submit applications for those with early start dates as early as possible.

Applicants should bring to the interview the studencheskiy billet and zachyetnaya knizhka. Also required is the original receipt which shows that the SEVIS fee has been paid (See www.FMJfee.com for further information regarding SEVIS.) Documentation regarding home/apartment/car ownership is not necessary.

Return Verification

Applicants for Summer Work & Travel programs in 2008 are expected to complete their programs by September 1, 2008. Students have a maximum additional 30 days to travel in U.S. after completing the program.

Agents must obtain proof from participants that they have returned to Russia. We consider the following documents as sufficient proof of return:

  • Original external passport containing re-entry date stamp
  • Original boarding pass.

We ask agents to verify the return of their participants, and provide us a list indicating whether or not each participant’s return has been confirmed. This list must be submitted by November 14, 2008.
