What is USAID?

The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) is an agency of the U.S. Government whose mission is to manage the U.S. Government's economic and technical assistance programs in over 100 countries. As part of the U.S. Embassy in Moscow, USAID/Russia works with the Russian individuals, non-government organizations (NGOs), community organizations and businesses to implement its activities as these entities strive to improve health and healthcare, strengthen civil society and better their standard of living in a market economy.

USAID programs operate in all Russia regions. Through technical cooperation, USAID works to strengthen Russian institutions that then take over and sustain all phases of a project or series of projects themselves as USAID scales back its direct participation.
